About 2 years ago I started having pretty severe pain in my hip and gluteal region on the left side. Being a multi-sport athlete in my late 30s, pain was something I was accustomed to. After over 20 years of running, swimming, biking, or weight lifting six days per week, I was pretty used to the routine of resting, massage, stretching, and ice. But, after multiple rounds of self-care attempts, I got an MRI that told me I had a slight labral tear in my hip. I was advised to do more resting and icing, but for the next year, the pain just kept returning after each intense workout and got so bad I could no longer sleep on my side, run or do intense workouts. I did extensive research online and Dr. Chahla had amazing reviews entrusting my care to him and Rush orthopedic seemed like the way to go.
I cannot say enough about how patient, kind, and thorough Dr. Chahla and his team have been throughout this whole process. When we decided to move forward with the surgery, Dr. Chahla did a fantastic job of explaining what the surgery and recovery would entail from start to finish. I stayed diligent with physical therapy, follow up visits, and home exercises and was thrilled to eventually be able to walk without pain, use an elliptical machine, perform squats and lunges, and eventually even run. I am now 6 months post-surgery and just completed a nine-mile run over the weekend. I am so grateful for Dr. Chahla as there was a time when I thought I may need to hang up my running shoes. Once conditions are safe with the pandemic (hopefully this summer) I hope to compete again in several Olympic distance triathlons.
